A Bedtime Ritual for Your Child: Why It Works (and How to Build One)

Why a Bedtime Ritual is Important
Children thrive on predictability. A fixed bedtime ritual provides structure, stability and helps their body and brain to calm down. Babies and toddlers in particular benefit from a recognizable routine to switch from active to relaxed.
What is a good sleep ritual?
A good bedtime ritual is simple, repeatable and tailored to your child's age. It is important that you do it in (approximately) the same way every night.
Examples of a quiet ritual:
-
A warm bath or wash
-
Putting on pajamas with soft music
-
Read aloud or sing a quiet song
-
Cuddle moment in bed
-
Dim the lights and prepare the room
How long does a ritual last?
Keep it short and simple: 15 to 30 minutes is enough. Too long will make your child more awake.
Extra tip: use a firm pillow or cuddly toy
A recognizable object, such as a soft child's pillow, can become part of the ritual. Our Kid Pillow is perfect for this – ergonomic, familiar and designed for young children.
What if the ritual doesn't seem to work?
Give it time. Some children need a few days to get used to a new routine. Be patient and stick to your order – children feel safe with repetition.
